As far as racing homers, I have Janssens, 5 hens and 4 cocks, all blue bars so far. But I'm hoping to get some light checks in the loft, as I like the look a little bit more. These were given to me by a friend from work, Fred Beeman. He has had this family for the last 15 years. They were given to him by his friend Freddie Krystofiak. From what I understand from the stories Fred tells me, Freddie Krystofiak was a well known and successful racer. Although Fred hasn't raced in the last few years, he has kept the pigeons pure as they were when he got them, thinking that someday he may race again. We have been talking about starting a club soon, maybe? Or maybe joining one clubs in the region. Fred just bought a pair of Sion/Stassart racers from John Ciolek and he has given me a pair of eggs to hatch under my pigeons. So I may have a couple racers other than the Janssens to try out. Here are copies of the pedigrees I could gather from Fred. The Janssen pedigrees are for some of the birds given to Fred. Fred hasn't kept pedigrees since then, but my Janssens are all great or great-great grand children of the ones shown on the pedigree. Fred did not use individual breeding pens or keep pedigrees on them, it was more of an open breeding loft with a wall of nest boxes. But you can still see the blood, and it is the same as the pedigrees because there was never any other birds introduced into these. Here are a couple pictures of my Janssens.
