Default Craftsman 15" lathe-removing face plate

I got this lathe yesterday. I have done 1 turning and now I cannot remove the face plate. I am sure that it is something stupid on my part. The wrench included fits the back of the face plate perfectly but the threaded spindle from the lathe does not lock or offer resitance as I try to remove the face plate. It is not crossthreaded. Help!?

Default remong face plate

screw a rectangular block to face plate. place a pc of 2" board of sufficient length to catch on the face plate block while other end is placed on the table-give a little slack and now reverse lathe. I can't understand why your lathe spindle won't lock, but face plate will break loose as i've described. You've just set it tighter by turning, thats the way right hand threads tighten. You maybe able to grip drive belt enough to accomplish this too.
