screen sand and recoat hardwood floors
Had my oak hardwood floors (in a 1950 era house)professionally sanded and refinished about 20 years. They have held up exceptionally well. Now that my sons have left for school, I would like to screen sand and recoat them myself. I remember that an oil poly called "Last and Last" was used. Any suggestions on what product (brand name)to use this time? I want an oil poly again with a gloss finish as before, since it has held up all these years. Also, I was told never to put anything on them so they could be recoated. But, I keep reading to clean them first..with what? I am afraid to put any kind of cleaner on them since nothing has been used up to this point since I was told not to ever use a cleaner. I plan on using a lambswool applicator for the finish. Also, only my son's rooms need to be redone. Can I just recoat those two rooms and maybe tape off at the hall? And, should I put down one or two coats. Any advice would greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Ed
