Used for everything from cutting curves and straight ripping to re-sawing boards into sheets of veneer, the bandsaw can do it all. The size indicated is usually the cutting capacity between the blade and the frame, for example, a 14" Delta bandsaw will allow a cut roughly 14" between the blade and frame. The cutting height is figured from the table surface to the highest point your wood will pass under while in the cut. This is where you need to think about if you will be doing any re-sawing, the highest capacity height the better.
