Delta 36-600 10" Table Saw

Buying your first table saw is tough. So many things to consider: You want power, so you don't bog down in tough cuts; accuracy, no matter what you're doing, and safety, because no one wants to get hurt. As a woodworker's first table saw, this one's got some great advantages, but it does have what some would consider being minuses as well. On the plus side, the 15-amp motor provides plenty of power for sawing through the toughest hardwood you've got without whining or stalling. The table's a nice size at 22-1/4-by-38-3/8-inches—-that's big enough for most stock stability, but it's still small enough for the home workshop or as a jobsite saw. The table's made of cast iron, so you feel less vibration, and with a coat of floor paste wax on it, it's smooth as glass. As you get farther into woodworking, you'll find you'll want to attach an auxiliary fence, and this fence comes with predrilled holes to make that a little easier. The miter gauge rides in a T-slot, always preferable to a plain slot, mostly because the gauge won't tip out when you've reached the balance point off the front of the table. Now, on the minus side, the thing we dislike about this saw is Delta's placement of the power switch on the right side of the front of the saw, requiring you to reach in front of the blade. Now, this might not be such a big deal if the blade guard were better. As it is, it's awkward and tough to keep adjusted, so it's tempting to toss it aside, and without the anti-kickback pawls to do their job, you're risking injury by reaching in front of the blade to turn off the saw.
